Alberto Prieto earned his BSc in Physics (Electronics) in 1968 from the Complutense University in Madrid. In 1976, he completed a PhD at the University of Granada. From 1971 to 1984 he was founder and Head of the Computing Centre, and he headed the Computer Science and Technology Studies at the University of Granada (UGR) from 1985 to 1990. He is currently a fulltime Professor and Head of the Research Centre in Information Technology and Communications (CITIC-UGR) at the University of Granada
Dr. Prieto is the co-author of four text-books published by McGraw-Hill and Thomson editorials, has co-edited five volumes of the LNCS, he is also co-author of more than 250 articles, and he has co-advisor of 27 PhD theses. His area of research primarily focuses on advanced computing architectures and smart embedded systems.
Moreover Professor Prieto has won several awards including the Extraordinary Doctoral Award (1976), CITEMA National Award for Best PhD in Computer Science (1977), and the National Informatics Award Raimon Llull (2006). Also in 2006, in its first edition, he received the Research Award from the University of Granada (in the area of Engineering and Architecture). He is a member of the Academy of Mathematics, Physical-Chemical and Natural Sciences of Granada (elected on 2007). In the years 2009-10 received Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Granada (area of Architecture and Engineering).
Nominated member of the IFIP WG 10.6 (Neural Computer Systems) as well as Senior Live Member of the IEEE, Dr Prieto is founder and Chairman of the Spanish RIG of the IEEE Neural Networks Council, now IEEE Computational Intelligence Society.
